About dis picture
Di story behind di frame
From dis part of di street, di Powder Tower seems to rise almost abruptly above di surrounding buildings. Its dark stone and steep roof give it a weight dat feels very different from di lighter façades around it, yet nothing in di street below stop dem because of dat presence. Cars move toward di gateway, pedestrians gather beneath it, signs and traffic lights occupy di same space as Gothic stonework. Dat ordinary movement dey wetin interested me here. Di tower dey monumental, but di city no treat it as something isolated from daily life. For centuries dis bin dey an entrance into Prague, and even now di idea of passage remains visible. Di street still leads directly through di old arch and into di historic centre beyond. Di surroundings get changed completely, but di tower continues to stand over di flow of di city, connecting an old gateway wit di Prague moving beneath it today.

It also became part of di traditional Royal Route followed by Bohemian monarchs travelling through di city toward their coronation at Prague Castle.
